Faculty Director for Research: Dr. Jacob C. Capin, PT, DPT, PhD, MS

Blending science and sport, Dr. Jacob Capin is a clinician-scientist and assistant professor of physical therapy at ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ. As a former NCAA Division I basketball player, his work is shaped by both high-level competition and experience rehabilitating athletes after traumatic knee injuries. Dr. Capin directs the , developing lifespan-focused strategies to improve athlete health. His academic training spanning psychology, anatomy, physical therapy, and biomechanics fosters collaborative, cross-disciplinary research. Outside academia, Jacob is an elite triathlete with Roka Multisport, seven-time USA Triathlon National Champion, five-time IRONMAN 70.3® winner, and certified coach. As faculty director of the AHPRC, Dr. Capin prioritizes interdisciplinary partnerships and broad engagement, advancing a thriving, innovative hub for research on health and human performance across all ages and abilities. |

Student and Community Engagement Specialist: Toni D. Uhrich, MS, EP-C

Toni Uhrich is an exercise physiologist in the Exercise Science program within the Department of Physical Therapy at ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ. She has been on faculty at Marquette since 1995, becoming full time in 2016. Ms. Uhrich is recognized for her expertise in fitness testing and is a frequent collaborator with athletic personnel and scientists from Marquette and other academic institutions in southeast Wisconsin. At Marquette, she also plays an integral role in coordinating undergraduate, graduate, and faculty engagement. In addition, she teaches undergraduate students, provides internship experiences, and coordinates AHPRC tours and events for interested community members – from middle school students to older adults in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Ms. Uhrich splits her time between the AHPRC and Cramer Hall where she is the Director of the Human Performance Assessment Core (HPAC) which provides state-of-the-art, fee-for-service exercise testing for the Milwaukee community. |

AHPRC Research Fellow: Dr. Linda Piacentine, PhD, RN, ACNP-BC

Focusing on health promotion, Dr. Linda Piacentine is a nurse scientist, acute care nurse practitioner, and associate professor in the College of Nursing at ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ. As a qualitative expert, she collaborates with interdisciplinary teams of researchers to study life experiences of people living with chronic conditions and the effect of exercise on their health and well-being. She seeks to promote health by encouraging persons to initiate and maintain exercise as a health practice. Her most recent research includes arts and dance to improve health for people with multiple sclerosis and the impact on health of prior participation in collegiate varsity sports. As a research fellow, Dr. Piacentine brings her clinical knowledge and qualitative methodology expertise to the AHPRC leadership team. |
