Dr. Sarah Feldner, dean of the Diederich College of Communication

To our college community,

It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 2026-27 academic year. In the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication, we teach students to think stratregically, act creatively and seek truth for a more just world. That mission has never been more important.

We immerse our learners in all aspects of communication in personalized, hands-on ways that help them discern their career path. Internships, service, alumni connections and self-led creative projects help our students elevate their skills. As a Jesuit, Catholic institution, we also embrace holistic education centered on our liberal arts tradition. The pairing of our with deep communication experience leads to well-rounded professionals who make a lasting impact on the world.

Attention is the currency of the modern age; those who capture it wield immense influence over our society. The people who work in the attention business must do so ethically, with an eye toward the greater good. I challenge our faculty, staff, students and myself to always think about how our use of communication tools can serve others. This is the most important way that we live Marquette's motto of Be The Difference.

I am excited to be embarking on another academic year alongside the people in this building, and for those who are just discovering us, I look forward to meeting you soon.

Sincerely,
Dr. Sarah Feldner
Dean, J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication
